The Detroit Pistons offer Jason Kidd the chance to wow them one-on-one.

Recent Hall of Fame inductee Jason Kidd got in off the strength of two decade long playing career. Everywhere he played, he helped elevate his teammates to newfound heights. In his second career as a coach/member of management, Jason Kidd has a lot of ground over, especially if he’s to overcome his rough start in Milwaukee. To be fair, his tenure as the head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks was a bag of mixed results. By the time he was fired 45 games into the 2017-18 season, he had amassed a slight below average record of 139-152 record and two playoff appearances.

Given his reputation as team leader, NBA owners aren’t ready to write him off just yet. Kidd will interview for Detroit Pistons’ head coaching vacancy. His competition comes in the form of Michigan Wolverines coach John Beilein, and former Toronto Raptors coach Dwane Casey. Between Kidd and the two front runners, there is a world of difference. Casey is known for his unconventional wisdom and for endearing himself to his players, whereas Beilein is a real tactitian/student of the game, but is largely untested outside of the NCAA. According to ESPN‘s Adrian Wojnarowski, The Pistons are said to be also looking at current Miami Heat assistant Juwan Howard, who much like Kidd, was a NBA veteran who transitioned into a coaching role almost immediately after his playing career came to a close. In the case of a smaller market like Detroit, the decision will come down to who amongst the candidates is a better “cultural fit.”
